East Windsor Ambulance Association - Paramedic Services

The East Windsor Ambulance Association was established in 1978 as a volunteer, non-profit, ambulance corps.The association originally operated one ambulance at the basic life support level. The East Windsor Ambulance Association responded to approximately 75 calls that first year. For calendar year 2010, we responded to 2479 calls for service. While we are no longer a volunteer ambulance corps, the association remains a non profit community ambulance service.

The East Windsor Ambulance operates two advanced life support (ALS) transport ambulances staffed with paramedics and EMT's, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A third ambulance is frequently staffed during day shifts during the week. Additional ambulances are staffed during peak call volume periods along with three paramedic response vehicles. We currently employ approximately 20 paramedics and 20 EMT's providing the highest level of pre-hospital care available in the State of Connecticut. This includes rapid sequence intubation (paralizing a patient to place an airway tube), intraossious infusion (place a needle directly in a bone to allow intravenous access), hypothermic resusitation (cooling the body after reviving a patient from cardiac arrest) and a very progressive pain management program.

Our advanced information technology includes electronic patient care reports, integrated billing and collection software, transmission of cardiograms directly to the emergency rooms and cath labs of several area hospitals, global positioning systems for our vehicles that receive the emergency locations directly from the dispatch center, fleet tracking and locating systems allow us to send the closest unit to your emergency, internet hot spots in our vehicles allow for electronic transmission of data and the use of search engines to look up medications and medical conditions if necessary.
