January 5, 2010 - East Windsor Ambulance Begins Talk of 2010-2011 Contract with East Windsor Board of Selectman

On January 5, Chief Thomas Clynch and IT Manager/Paramedic Dan Starvish attended the Town of East Windsor Board of Selectmans meeting to have initial discussions about the East Windsor Ambulance Contract for the 2010 to 2011 or beyond years.  Chief Clynch and Mr. Starvish were presenting the facts about the ambulance association, and despite repeated attempts, year after year, after year, explained to the board how the East Windsor Ambulance is a IRS Registered 501 (c)3 organization, and NOT a commercial, for profit company.  The board was very quick to become agressive and threaten to privatize ambulance service for the town of East Windsor.  The board is using this stance to try and convince tax payers they are heroes by taking cost cutting measures.  We all agree, these are hard times, but you can not jeopordize public safety to save money.  First Selectwoman Denise Menard stated that a commercial company has placed a "zero-bid" and can replace the East Windsor Ambulance Association.  We urge you to support our "We Love East Windsor Ambulance" campaign, as we look to continue providing the citizens of East Windsor with the best life saving pre-hospital care in the region.  We are very assured, if you compare apples to apples, you will find that we are at the top of the pack, and no commercial service in this region will be able to match our response times, unit availability, and emergency care skills and procedures.

We also urge you to read the minutes of the Board of Selectman clicking here.  Your support is needed more than ever, and you can do this by attending the board meetings, sending the board your letters of support and voting for public safety advocates during election season.  If you would like to email us your letter of support or your opinions, we would be happy to submit it to the board of selectman for you, please email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. June 16, 2009 - East Windsor Ambulance Begins Latest Life Saving Care

On June 16th, East Windsor Ambulance launched its latest innovation in cutting edge life saving care.  Quoted by outside entities as being the first ground transport ambulance in Nothern Connecticut to begin Induced Hypothermia for post Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation, the East Windsor Ambulance Association will offer the latest in quality care to patients suffering sudden cardiac arrest.  When a person has a successful return of circulation after a sudden cardiac arrest, the East Windsor Ambulance Paramedics will begin to intentionally cause a hypothermic state in these patients.  Research from the American Heart Association has shown upwards of two times the amount of patients achieving a successful long term outcome.  Research is showing that when hypothermia is induced post cardiac arrest, patients are not only getting a second chance on life, but are enjoying that chance with a much better quality of life, due to a more positive nuerological outcome.  East Windsor Ambulance achieved this by adding a small refridgerator into each ambulance packed with bags of saline, and Paramedics receiving training on induced hypothermia.  With the introduction of this care, we hope our patients and their families will benefit in the long term, as we continue to push the level of care we can provide, higher and higher.

It is expected that other ambulance services will follow our lead over the next year.

June 8, 2009 Ambulance Association denied bid to reinstate budget.

The East Windsor Board of Selectman led by First Selectman Denise Menard , Mark Simmons, Dick Pippin, John Burnham, And Gil Hayes rejected our request to reinstate cuts made during contract negotiations over the past several months. The reason given for these cuts is that we were a for-profit company and that we have means to raise funds from other sources. Making reference to the East Windsor Ambulance Association as a for profit company is a gross misrepresentation of fact especially by those leaders in town government.

The town requires an audit be performed each and every year at great cost to the association. This audit explains in great detail our relationship with the Town of East Windsor. We also submit an annual report to the First Selectman that begins by stating we are a non profit agency. Would a for profit company be allowed to post in the towns annual report?

A selectman made the statement that we have the opportunity to increase revenue by adding "extra patients". The answer is simple: we can not invent emergency calls. Our staff makes every effort to  answer every call that we recieve, very few calls are passed to other services.

B. Public Safety Communications Committee

Membership would include fire department chiefs or representatives, a fire marshal representative, a police department member, an emergency management member. As the ambulance is a for profit organization it was felt it should not be a part of the committee. This is a group that can meet during the daytime - sort of as subcommittee of departments that meets quarterly to discuss equipment and needs, as well as budget recommendations.

We would love to hear from you and get your comments. Feel free to contact Chief Clynch with any feedback via email or phone, using the contact us page.
